On the weekend of 2-3 November 2024, Smile Train hosted their annual virtual Cleft Con event for individuals and families affected by cleft from around the world. It was a privilege to be invited to be this year’s keynote speaker. I shared some insights from my own personal journey, and also wanted to send the message to the cleft community that you’re not alone, and that the community themselves have so much to contribute to the cleft healthcare and research fields. As part of preparing for Cleft Con, Smile Train worked with the University of Canterbury to produce a short documentary about my journey and our research.

Thank you to Smile Train for the opportunity to be involved, and to the cleft community around the world for all your support and kind feedback following my presentation – it was a pleasure to be involved with such a worthwhile community-building event.
